Here at Kids Count Pukekohe, we support our Tamariki to develop special friendships by encouraging and understanding social competency skills throughout their learning environment such as communication, collaboration, empathy, patience and responsibility and perseverance.
Children begin to form relationships at an early age, we believe it is important to support each child to maintain these special relationships as they learn, grow, and play with and alongside each other throughout their day. We believe with the support and guidance from our team of wonderful teachers the children learn and are encouraged to develop important life skills, such as how to take turns, share, and include others in their play and learning activities. By sharing experiences, feelings, and interacting with one another, children learn how to meet the social needs of others and of their own.
By providing opportunities for each child to experience all the aspects of friendship, which are beneficial to their overall development and learning.
Most importantly we encourage our Tamariki to share their feelings and emotions with others whilst having lots of fun together.
We believe whether you are an educator or parent you can be a positive role model and show children the right ways to interact with others.
Here are some great ideas that you can support your child's friendships at home Whanau by:
Modelling reciprocity and empathy for others
Showing how to include others in play.
Having playdates and providing opportunities for your child to meet others.
Talking and listening to your child.
