Matariki Pai

Whiria te tanagata. Mā te māngari te whaitaongatanga hoki e pā mai ki a koe I te tau eheke mai nei. Kia Hari te Tau Hou!

Weave the people together. Good Luck, good fortune for the coming year. And Happy New Year!

On Wednesday 26th June 2019, we had prepared an event for our whanau here at Kids Count Weymouth to celebrate the Maori New Year. Over the week we have had activities that complimented this event. Tamariki were given the opportunity to help prepare the kai, by peeling the vegetables. What was cool about this event we asked whanau to make a small contribution – by bringing in a vegetable to contribute to our Hangi and Vegetable soup! It was awesome to see our tamariki faces when they brought their vegetable in. On the day of our event, whanau watched as their tamariki perform for them and they celebrated with each other and their tamariki by having a fest of hangi and vegetable soup. It was lovely to see everyone.

Matariki Pai!
