Winter and Matariki (Nga Tuakana)

It is June and Winter is here and it has been raining almost every day. But this didn't stop our Nga Tuakana children to explore and learn. It has been a busy month as the children were curious to know where the snow comes from. After various experiments and sensory plays and discussions at mat times, children were able to develop an understanding about changing weather and looking after themselves.

Nga Tuakana Tamariki were also keen to learn about Matariki. They displayed their creative skills by redesigning Maori Myths and Legends on paper. Learning the names of the Matariki stars was a challenge but by the end of the month all the children could sing the Matariki song. Maui and the Sun turned out to be everyone's favourite. This lead us to learn about the solar system. Children were amazed to learn that how big the planets were. They now know the names of the planets.

We also said good bye Trisha and Wynter-Blossom as she turned 5 and is ready to start primary school. We wish her all the best for her learning journey.
